Dr. Patty Silverman joined the Communication faculty in the fall of 2000 as an assistant professor of Public Relations. She received her bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University and her master's degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. She earned a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Prior to coming to Lee, Silverman was an adjunct instructor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. She has 20 years of public relations experience including public relations director and spokesperson for the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Pat Robertson. For seven years she served as the public relations specialist for the Charlotte Police Department. Silverman also held a public relations position at a theme park in Orlando and in a number of corporate and nonprofit settings in three states.
Professionally, she has served ont the executive committee of the Cleveland Media Association for four years.
She holds membership in the Public Relations Society of America and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In 1999, she received her accreditation in Public Relations (APR).
Silverman is the discipline coordinator for the public relations major for the Communication and the Arts Department at Lee. She also serves as the internship coordinator for public relations, advertising and media writing students and is the founder and co-faculty advisor for the Lee Chapter of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America).
She has coached the PRSSA Bateman team for three years and the 2005-2006 Bateman Team placed 4th nationally out of more than 60 teams nationwide.
She has been selected for Who's Who Among American Teachers for two years and was nominated by the Lookout Chapter of PRSA for the Outstanding Educator of the Year. For three years she was selected as the Outstanding Faculty Advisor by the Communication and the Arts Department.
Silverman and her husband Steve have one daughter, Bethany.
